Y2 & Y1 visit Formby squirrel reserve
26 04 2007What a fantastic day!
We arrived at the nature reserve in style on a double decker bus. After a quick toilet stop Y1 & Y2 said “adios†and went on separate tour guides.
Y2 had a great tour by our very lovely nature reserve guides (hopefully they will be looking at our website, so a great big hello and thank you from all of us!) We looked at the difference between two woods and completed a worksheet. Along the way we picked up lots of pine cones, twigs, leaves etc. We even made our own trees using the branches, twigs and leaves around us. “Art Attack†TV programme beware! Mrs Derby’s team made a lovely tree. All of the children enjoyed the tour and we had some very well thought out answers to questions from lots of the children including Eve, Alex, Tom W, Anna McK and Anna A to name but a few.
We then rejoined Y1 at the picnic area and we all settled down to a lovely lunch. Thanks mums! As usual the army of adults were well prepared, Mrs Graham had one of those bags that looked small from the outside but was obviously massive on the inside and bottomless. Inside was her lunch, nuts for the squirrels, flask, picnic rug, fridge freezer, sink…… Mr Ward then decided that we had sat for long enough and retrieved the balls, skipping ropes and frisbees from the bus for everyone to play with.
Then it was time to go to the beach. Mr Rafferty chose the biggest and highest sand dune ever for everybody to climb up, It was very quiet at the top for a while……until we all caught our breath!
All the children had fun, some buried their friends in the sand, many ran up and down the sand dune and some looked through the binoculars. Then, the race was on. Was it a bird? Was it a plane? No, it was Mrs Reed and Mr Ward having a race down the sand dune! Mr Ward had the edge to begin with and then it was neck and neck, oh and just near the end Mrs Reed simply flew through the air rolled on to the sand and won! Never mind Mr Ward.
Keep reading for some of the children’s thoughts as hopefully we will get a chance for some of the children to post a sentence about their day. Oh and please have a look at the photographs that have been put on the website (see previous post for link), keep checking too as I’m sure there will be plenty more pictures added over the next few days.
